The Rexford, Mont., station of the Great Northern Railway was established in 1903. It was closed in 1972 when the railroad was rerouted due to the flooding of the area behind the Libby Dam. Incorporated in 1909 under the laws of the state of Washington (as the Idaho Central Railway Company), the company was organized on behalf of GN to acquire the surveyed property of the Panhandle Electric Railway and Power Company, although it did not build any railroad line on the property. In December 1926, its name was changed and corporate powers expanded.
